Dido on retorqueing
The guy that did mine said that so many people don't retorque the head bolts enough and then you have to do it again
I think he did it 5 times in the first 500 miles
As for milling the head, my car came with a milled head. You had to put washers under the spark plugs to keep the from hitting the spark plugs, closing the gap, then a miss. I changed the head as I drive the car a lot
Glad you figured it out
Good luck with a great car

"recommended 8-10 coats of copper gasket spray " I am way too old, too cheap, and too lazy for that! I spray on one dripping wet coat of Rustoleum Aluminum paint as I understand they did back in the old AAA stock car racing days. Slap the head on and torque it while all is still wet. Have had very little trouble with blown gaskets. I retorque one time while still warm after a driving run, and perhaps once again about the first or second oil change.

Do chase your stud threads, and perhaps get a new torque wrench. Pretty hard to figure how an engine with a milled head and block can eat a gasket in 500 miles. The thing only has a little more compression than a Gravely lawn tractor.
