Coolant thermostat missing

I have a 1929 633 7-person sedan with Std 8 and it has a location for a coolant thermostat on the front of the head. However, the cavity is empty. I suspect that without the coolant thermostat the engine will take longer to warm up, and perhaps run too cold overall.

Should there be a thermostat installed in this location?

Cheers,
Brian
