If you're pulling the door apart you install these then I would also install some sound deadening in the door at the same time. Just scrape off all the old stuff and clean it out of the door. Then stick on some self-adhesive type. It only needs to cover about half of the area of the outside wall of the door to make a big difference.

I struck gold today!!!
![]() This is the special screw and washer that secures the factory side mirror for 51-54. The washer is similar to a lock washer so it kinda screws into the hole in the door. It has a little ring to keep the washer from sliding up the bolt when your screwing it into the hole. One one car in the entire bone yard had a factory mirror and it was the last car I checked! ![]() ![]() If you see a car with the holes like this in the belt molding, and the interior panel is still on the door, there is likely one of these bolts inside the door! ![]() I can confidently say that Packard only intended side mirrors to be mounted to the belt molding on 51-54 models. There was no bracket for the 51-54 side mirrors. 54-55 side mirrors were designed to be mounted to the belt molding, or the fender. The did have a bracket and if mounting them to the belt molding it would have been a more involved process than the 51-54 style as the belt molding would need to be removed to install the bracket. And that's all I have to say about that.
