The Scammer Backfire. Wow!!!

There are some things for which I simply have no answer. I posted a short while back that I had fallen prey to a scammer on the site who had sent me a PM on the glass wing for my '39 hood ornament. It wasn't one of these 'canned' lines we've all been getting lately (I received another one yesterday) and did not raise any red flags to me. I communicated with the provided email and received photos and assurances that the item was as purported. I faithfully mailed a US bank draft and then started to get suspicious-sounding emails from the 'seller'. After investigation on the site, I realized I'd been 'had' and felt rather stupid for not being more scrutinous and having done more back-checking. I called my bank to see if I could put a stop-payment on the money order, but could not. I called the police and due to the 'international factor', was told there was nothing they could do. The scammer had asked me to put the draft in his wife's name and I did Google her and the address. 'She' had 10 aliases and had apparenttly just moved to that address which turned out to be an old folks home. I wasn't sure how 'they' were using that as a pickup point for their unscrupulous payments but figured they were posing as a relative of a resident or something along those lines. Anyway, my wife checked the mail today and came in proclaiming 'Merry Christmas' and waving the envelope containing the money order. Apparently it had been turned back at the delivery point. My guess is the home figured out it was being 'used' for nefarious purposes and returned any mail that arrived with this gal's name. I was stunned and can now just return the draft for a refund and am not out a dime! And, for all the 'scammin' & jammin' efforts of the lowlife puke attempting to rip us off, he got a big fat goose-egg; How poetic is that??!?!? 'Must be living right! Chris.

Hey TXGoat,
Yes, you're right - there are still good people out there, lots of them. There are probably those who think I should have twigged to the guy wanting me to put the check in his wife's name but I have done that for legit sales on here; heck I even sent payment to another country for a part coming out of the US to Canada and all was jake-aloo and copasetic. Just goes to show though, that the bad guys don't always win! Chris.
