Solid state is the only way to go.
Make sure you change the buffer capacitor when you install the new vibrator.(This would be a perfect time to recap it if it hasn't been done already) Check out www.nostagliaair.org They may have a Ryder print of your radio.

I understand replacing the the buffer capacitor what are you referring to on recap?

I think he is referencing replacing all the capacitors at the same time to eliminate one of those going bad on you in the near future.

Thanks I think I'll see if I can get it to play before I dive into replacing all the caps. Have ordered a solid state vibrator and a new buffer cap.
