Hi Folks,

I'm detailing and painting a 1956 374 engine and am looking for any photos or details of the correct component colors. I have the bronze paint from Hirsch, and as far as I know, pretty much everything is bronze except the fan, fan pulley "cone", and oil filter housing (all black).

I'm not sure about the oil filler tube, dipstick tube, road draft tube and main crankshaft pulley. Any links to a correctly painted engine would be helpful.

TIA

Buy the engine judging guide from PI. It describes what everything under the hood should be painted and/finished in. The problem with pictures is that you are assuming that person painted their engine correctly!

All the parts you are not sure of are also bronze, but Kev is right when he says get the PI book. It will help you in many ways.

Hi Kev & Randy,

Thanks for the reply. I went to the PI website but didn't see the option to buy the guide you mentioned.

Kev.... I checked the photos of '56's here on your site and see a few variations on colors used, mainly on the fan pulley and the oil filler tube...some are black, some are bronze.

I'll see if I can order the PI guide.

thanks again,

John

PI doesnt have ordering via their website. You just need to call the office during business hours to order it and they will get it right out to you. It's a very handy resource.
