Mite be a good use for the hole in floor for filling the MANUAL brake cylinder. Run the bourdon tube and gauge thru that hole with a steel tube over the bourdon tube to protect it. Mite make a little lump in the carpet but maybe easier than going thru the firewall. My left freshair vent is covered now with mastercylinder retro fit so that is out of the question for me.

Kevin, good question and worthy of some thought. Practicalities make measuring in the pan easy. Though it might not be ideal, the pan is the source of oil uptake into the transmission so I think it will be useful data, if not perfect.

PackardV8, I won't be using a bourdon-tube unit but a thermocouple, but thanks for the thought.

Kev. Ideally temperature would be taken exiting the trans AND at the reentry point. Something to think about. For rite now temp readings from anywhere would be intersting to have.

Most air flow trans coolers are used in conjunction with the stock fluid to fluid units, at least on the heavy diesel pickups my friends and i run. In fact, most heavy pickups like my D-350 Dodge with the Cummins diesel run both from the factory. The aftermarket air to air units usually do recommend you use them in conjuction with the stock coolant cooler.

Usually the only time the stock cooler is removed or bypassed is heavy mountain towing, a modified engine that may run hotter than normal, or when the stock cooler is defective/ damaged. My 56s stock cooler was plugged, thats why i bypassed it.

Wow! While I was in the garage today you all were having a grand old time.

Here is the mock-up I've decided to go with. Additionally, I'll use steel lines too for the most part. I'm going to cut the steel lines just forward of the fuel pump area & use a short length of rubber hose (3-6") for vibration purposes, then again use steel to the frame and through the holes in the dust pan to the cooler.

I attack it again next weekend.
