Has anyone talked to Jack Nordstrom about the price on a 700r4 conversion? I keep meaning to call him but haven't got around to it yet. Has anyone had this done? I am still not giving up on my search for a manual bell housing but I would like to see the price for the 700r4.

Ryan,
I have talked to Jack about the A/C bracket he makes but not about a kit for the 700. I know he makes one for the TH400 and if you call him he is more than glad to talk to you about your project. I also talked to the company that makes the kits for straight 8's and they will not be making any for the V8.

Bill

ps:Jack's number is 1-800-775-7077

Someone is planning on a 700R4 for the V8.

Believe that is Jack Nordstrom mentioned above or is he strictly doing the TH400. He has some pictures of his conversion on the 56 Golden Hawk website.1956goldenhawk.com/ I can't link directly to the page but once there, select OPTIONS and the TH400 conversion is listed under technical items. Of course, his being for the Studebaker application, expect we would have to supply our own mounts and any linkage pieces.

Talked to Jack about the Trans he has done a few 700r4s and got back a positive review. I think I am going to go that route. The price is a bit much, but a automatic with overdrive would be nice.

Jack did say there was someone that was running this trans and was happy with it. I think the owner has posted on this site.

I will have the motor built by the end of the month and hope to have the trans in my hands by the end of FEB. But it will be some time before I will be able to drive the car. I will start a post on the build once I get a little further in.

The motor was a clean running 352 with 40k(+or-) miles. I left the bottom end complete because it looked great when I tore it apart. I wanted to bore it out to the 374 but dont have the money to do so. I am still thinking of calling Isky and getting a cam and replacing the lifters, rods, vlave springs.
I would also love to track down a Hunt Mag. I have seen one once and it went for $500. I am sure someone on the board has it.

Pistons and rod bearings are nearly impossible to get for the Packard V8 unless u want just cast Al. pistons.

U mentioned rods. HP i assume. Since pistons are difficult then one mite be complelled to run SBC pistons with NEW rods to accomodate the SBC pistons. If u gotta buy new rods (HP i assume) then mite as well make the pistons ez to get and relatively cheap to offset the cost of the special rods.

As for the magneto it just won't get u much unless u plan to turn very high rpm or need to trim weight from the vehicle for strict racing application (no generator, no battery etc).

Cheap and ez.
