While doing some reading about Packard, it was stated that during the 1920's Packard stock was the second most widely held stock in America. During the 20's General Motors stock topped the list.

I would think he means GM in the '20s, since he says Packard is the second most widely held stock, meaning GM was #1.

When did Packard go public and a bit of trivia i've never been able to find out is the Packard Ticker Tape Symbol. I'm guessing "P". Probably available in some old newspapers of the time. When did they hit the DJIA and when were they pulled from the Dow???

Good questions all, and I don't know the answers but Packard was a well known public stock in 1915 as the introduction of the Twin Six was significant enough news to halt the ticker. I think it may have been 1910 when Packard became a Michigan corporation succeeding the old West Virginia corporation.

I have a copy of a letter from Geo. Hendee, Pres. Indian m/c company to PMCC stating his delight in the TwinSix. It is dated either 1915 or 1917. So the Twin six must have been a major butt tickler in it's day.

The company name changed from Ohio Automobile Co to Packard Motor Car Co on 10/13/02. The land for the plant in Detroit was bought on 5/19/03. On 10/10/03, the company was officially a Detroit company. I don't know what the Packard symbol on the exchange was.

Did a little Google searching. In Google Books, I found a reference to an old (1919) banking reference guide that lists the Packard Motor Car Co symbol as PAK.

Thanks Roadsta'. I'd often wondered about that.
