Don gives good advice and several have learned that lesson the hard way.

If you seal the tank, after pouring the excess out do not lay the tank down with the bottom flat while letting the sealant dry. Use a block under the tank on one edge to tilt the tank slightly so excess sealant can run out of the triangular depressed area and does not pool and dry around the pickup tube. There is minimal space between the tube inlet and the bottom of the depressed area. If laid flat, sealant can collect in the depression and cover the opening to the tube. Once the sealant hardens there is no easy way to clear the tube opening so fuel can enter the tube again.

I vote for new tank and sender which will cure problem and make for safer future not having to worry about leaks or dirt. Twenty gallons of gas is a major saftey issue your garage. If you replace fuel lines only fuel issues will be fuel pump and carb . You will be getting fuel issues all covered
