has anyone actual first-hand experience with the battery going dead from repeated use of the T/L system? I have demonstrated mine at length and never had it drain the battery to the point where the car didn't start. I'm beginning to think this is an old wives tale. Urban legend?

Randy,

You misunderrate kids. My brother and I and some friends ran the battery dead on our 55 Clipper by sitting on the bumper, letting it raise us up, getting off to let it lower etc. etc. The car was conveniently parked in the garage, so we just had to open the door one nice summer day and have fun. Comfortable bumper, too.

Dad wasn't happy. He installed a manual override switch of his own design. It was the spring type that automatically centered itself. There was also an "off" setting (for some strange reason).
