Again, you can just check the manual. P. 66 here.

Weak springs will give you valve float at a lower RPM

Don't you get valve float at higher rpm?

I meant a lower RPM then they would otherwise…

That being said, based on Jack Vines’ comment, it would only be a concern on the V8’s.

For your spring tester, the only other thing you need is a dial indicator resting on the wood. Substitute a steel plate for the top board and you will be all set.

Gotcha! I misunderstood, must be your accent! LOL

Next engine I've have apart I'm going to test the springs properly. Have you ever checked springs out of a inline 8? I wonder if in general they retain their strength?

When I did test my springs they ranged from 122-125 lbs. BUT I don't know how much I compressed them, only that it was the same amount for all of them. I had missed the actual specs for the springs and was just looking to see if there were some springs that were weaker than others.

Engine is all back together and ready for start-up...................but I have to wait until after work!

After installing the fuel pump I was hooking up the vacuum lines to the booster and I'm almost certain that the pump and the manifold were having a tug-o-war! That is, I had the vacuum lines hooked up backwards!

I think so, but not sure. Could the wipers even work, which they did, if the vacuum lines were backwards?
