You might also want to read Terry Martin's account of repeating the trip in his Model F. The story in two parts is in The Packard Cormorant, Vol. 36 and 37 (1985). Still even then quite an adventure!

Makes one fully appreciate the then-fantastic plot of Jules Verne's "Around the World in Eighty Days."

I live in Louisiana and as recent as 1935, there were fewer than 300 miles of paved road. So, I can fully appreciate what a herculean endeavor it must have been for someone to make a coast-to-coast trip in the days of the Model F.
