My very original low mileage 5672A-1074 with matching engine has date 01-23-56 with 440275-A.
That's Jan twenty third of fifty six.

HOWEVER the BLOCK was painted green OVER the original IVORY it was painted. Explain that one!

Easy, January 23, 1956 was a Monday. Someone was asleep at the paint gun that day!

And I know, it probably wasn't assembled the day it was cast, so maybe it was painted that Friday.... Who knows.

Once you get some data compiled, then I can roll it into a lookup table here on the website. I hope we can eventually do that with the Theft Proof data that Dave has collected also so people can enter a number and it will tell them the year and possible model family it belongs to.

RT, THANKS!!!

Tom, that will be greatly appreciated, but don't go to too much trouble if it's hard to access.

Kev, thanks for the numbers, and that's my plan to have something like the Model info so people can just type in the casting number of their engine and know instantly everything about it. I'd like to add a lot more to it eventually, like compression ratios, horsepower and torque ratings, years applicable, bearing specs (I have those for most years) torque specs, what carb was on them, etc. I have enough manuals to get most of the info back to 1930 or so, and we can correlate that info to the engine number.

Eric,

This is what I have for you

From my owners manual. My father had written down some numbers and I just came in to verify what he written down.

Motor - Left front motor arm, upper face. *328578*
Steering - Upper face of steering gear housing *328271*
Frame - Left hand member just forward of dash *328521*

I found these numbers on the upper back half of crank case.
328578
P7098-170107
123 30PM X is stamped to the right of these numbers and centered

Is there any other places I should look for stampings?

Tom, is the "328578" a cast-in number or stamped? It looks like it's following the later year 6-digit casting number system. Also, what size is this engine?

When did the '54 Production line stop and the change over to 55 production start?

Just curious since the casting date on my block was so late in the production run., and the car serial number is towards the end, plus the GearStart tranny.

So far I have not run across anyone else with a GearStart.

Sorry for the tangent..... Now back to your regular scheduled thread......
