I've done a lot of research, and it appears that semi-gloss black is the correct tone of black for engine components under the hood. My question is why do so many show cars look like all the black is gloss? Case in point:

Should I paint semi-gloss, like I have been, or make it shiny, like exhibit A above? I'm trying to create a driver I can show, vice a show car capable of driving, but the body is off the frame, so i'm trying to do everything correctly.

Many show cars are over restored.

Agreed! The PI Engine Judging Guide is a good reference to have for knowing what is painted what. Somethings are semi-gloss, some as gloss. All depends on the years/models.

Actually I think semi-gloss looks better - more business-like.
Friend Chris painted his batwing air cleaner and other underhood items gloss black as a matter of personal preference. I think it looks better semi-gloss, BUT it's HIS car. Make up your own mind which you prefer and now is the time to do it while the body is off the frame. Come back with some pictures. We all would enjoy seeing them.

Randy, I put most of the pictures into my blog so that I don't have things sprinkled all over the forum! Just for a teaser though, here's one of the frame coming together. I don't have any of the engine yet, because I haven't started painting yet!
