Hi all, I am working my way through the 38 Barrymore Twelve and have arrived at the clutch and brake booster system. The power brakes are not adequate in terms of pedal pressure. I have fitted a vacuum gauge to the system between the check valve on the Engine manifold and boosters/ vac reservoir. The system currently shows around 10 inches of vacuum at around 750 rpm idle and drops fairly rapidly when the engine is shut down. I was intending to remove and dis assemble/ inspect the brake booster.
My question is: how do you disconnect the brake booster actuating shaft from the triple clevis at the bottom of the pedal/ booster connection? Do you unscrew the small valve actuation rod? It is very much different to my 35 Super as it acts on the hydraulic brake master cylinder. Anyone been down this path lately? I intend to isolate the systems this evening to determine if the vacuum loss is confined to one or both of the boosters or is perhaps engine related. I have tested the engine vacuum pump and it appears to work fine. Other than this the car is great to drive. Peter Toet
