Hi all,

My 55 Caribbean is almost on the road, we had planned to get the car registered this coming friday. Unfortunately today my mechanic informed me that there is 4x upper inner lower control arm bushings and 4x Lower inner control arm bushings missing. I was wondering if anybody knows what or if these bushings may be interchangeable/ cross referenced with bearings off another vehicle?

Many thanks
Mathew Rattray

Here's for the UPPERS:

http://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/parts/searchform.php?PartDesc=control+arm

It's in the Packard Parts X-ref of this website.

I'm curious about this statement:

"Unfortunately today my mechanic informed me that there is ... 4x Lower inner control arm bushings missing..."

What does he mean by "missing" on the LOWERS????

According to the manual the lowers are not replaceable. Replace ENTIRE control arm. BUT this is NOT true.

To replace the lowers will require that the control arm be disassembled by cutting out the rivets that hold it together, replace the bushings and then bolt control arm back togetther.

If u find a replacement bushing please let us know.

Does that mean that I would still have to order the correct Packard lower bushings from someone who sells packard parts anyway. Looks like I'll just have to order some from the U.S and get them sent out

I don't know where to get the lower bushings. NO ONE seems to know. Save the OLD lower bushing when u get them out as a pattern for when u go to the parts store to match up.

The lowers bushings are still a research issue and noone seems to know.

Also beware that whn the control arm is reassembled either BOLT or RIVET it back together. DO NOT WELD IT!!!

On second thot, it mite be possible to PULL the lower bushings out without disassembly of the arm. But it would require making a rather heavy tool to grip around the flange. But do NOT push against the shaft or it will mite spread the control arm.
