Hello,

I am restoring a Super 8 1933. The voltage regulator is missing. I cannot find the proper model through the part book. Does anyone know what it was and any suggestion for replacement if I cannot locate the proper model?

Someone is offering an Echlin CU3 as replacement but I dunno if it is right or not.

I appreciate any advice.

The original generator control was an Owen-Dyneto #21262 used 1933 thru 1936 for Eight, Super Eight, & Twelve. For many years NAPA offered a near-exact NORS as Echlin VR-755 but unfortunately a few years ago as individual collectors became aware of their availability, NAPA's remaining inventory was quickly wiped out, some folks buying all they could lay their hands on. So...you may find a long-time owner of a 33-36 senior Packard who has a spare he is now willing to part with. Also I still see used units occasionally at flea markets though you can't easily tell if they are repairable. You might also check to see what the major Packard vendors are offering for a O-D 21262 or replacement; also you might check K-M Lifestyle which was offering an NORS. And lastly folks like Jason at AER that can convert an old non-functional one to solid state with full generator amperage and voltage control although that will also require that the generator be modified from 3-brush to 3-brush; should be no problem finding an old carcass to modify, I have a few myself.

Or find someone who stocked up with extra Echlin VR-755 units and will sell one - that's the easiest solution.

I have no idea what an Echlin CU3 is. If you do find a O-D 21262 and need service instructions, I have them.

Owen, thanks for the info on AER, I was looking for someone to change my Auto-Lite voltage regulator to solid state.
