Looking for suggestions here. I replaced the old tired worn piece. I basically applied a clear protective finish on it. A few coats on both sides. Should I go a little extra and apply an undercoating to the bottom of it? For a little extra protection and sound deadening.

I assume this is exterior grade plywood. I would make sure the edges are well impregnated with finish. The cross-grain on the edge is where the piece is most vulnerable.

Mine was painted black from the factory. Agree with ensuring the edges are treated. Any sound deadening can go above the plywood, under either your new rubber floor mat (Don Lampen reproduces) or carpet.

Is there a link to the rubber floor mats mentioned above? My inadequate searching skills didn't return much for Don Lampen and reproduction mats.

Thanks everyone. I made sure I saturated the edges as well.
