I haven't been able to reliably lock my car since I got it; key might work easily or might be lots of problems, depending on the karma of the day.

To make a long story short, got a lock to a good locksmith today. The locks were well lubed and in very good condition, so it was puzzling.

The answer was unusual, at least to me. The cure was to recut the key on a wider blank (which fit the lock better).

I don't have original keys, just dupes. Presume somewhere along the way an alternate blank was used.

Posted in the hope it will be useful to someone else. It has been a head banger for me!

PS
Found out on picking them up today that the old key was also cut so it went into the lock too far, which was also fixed.

Best part of the deal: they charged me $3.64. The locksmith's father in law is an old car enthusiast. I owe him one!
