I'm considering changing the color of my 51 200 (not the deluxe version) from black to Sahara Sand. The dash is presently silver - it's been repainted in the past. In looking at some of the original cars on ebay, I've noted that the dash is frequently the same color as the exterior. Any guidance from the more experienced out there?

It seems to me there was a discussion some time ago on this site about 1951 junior dash color. If I remember correctly, there was two colors from the factory. A sort of beige/silver and a darker metallic grey. Senior cars were a different breed of cat on dash color and I'm not sure if convertibles were body color or not. The two '51 juniors I've owned had the dark grey, and the other the silvery. The fabrics were the same in both so I don't know why there was a difference.

thanks Jim - the photos on ebay were of a Mayfair, so that is probably the difference. I'll stick with the silver.

Could it be they had 2 interior paint colors to harmonize with different body and upholstery ensembles? Light for a light painted car and dark for the dark colors? Silver and gray, which are neutral and would go with any interior fabric?
