Wilton carpet difference.

I note that Wilton II is the carpet mentioned by a few to most closely replace the original Mosstread. Just wondering without ordering a bunch of samples if someone could just explain the difference between the Wilton I and II. Hirsch's sample page looks very similar to my eye and both carpets are listed as used on the same cars. Several places carry the Wilton I and also list the same car use but fewer carry the II. Just curious what is different or special on the II that it isn't carried as often.

Based on samples from Hirsch many years ago, Wilton I has a coarser nap than the Wilton II. The Wilton II is a closer match to the original Mosstred.

I used Wilton III for the carpet in my 22nd Series Custom 8 as it was supplied in a width of 40" instead of 36" for Wilton II and has a black latex coating on the jute backing. It was an excellent replacement for the original Mosstred when glued to 3/8" thick foam rubber. I don't know if it is still available.

While we are on the subject...I am planning a winter project to do at least the front of my 2106. Nice to know that Wilton III is the ticket and that BDeB's method is a good one. I know that the Packard interiors came in a relatively limited number of colors and was wondering if someone has determined which color of Wilton III is the closest match to the Mosstread in Packard "Tan" interiors.
Thanks.
Mark
