Hi Don,
I purchased my mirrors from an online shop here in Germany Oldtimerbedarf Yes, one screw head is visible, but they are close enough for me.

Worked on the heater a bit more. I have the motors stripped, primed and re-painted and I have the cover stripped and primed. I’m waiting on the wrinkle paint for the cover. Thanks again, Dan for pointing me to the paint.

Yeah I figured. IDK if it would be worth it but it might improve the quality of the entries a bit if people can go back and edit for errors or omissions.

Differential Gear Thrust Washers

Hey all. Working on a 23rd series, Ultramatic, 3.54 rear end. Pulled rhe carrier to replace the gasket, copper wire rings, and clean everything up. Upon inspecting the internals, I found one of the differential gear thrust washers isn't seated properly between the bearing and gear, and on the other side, there's no thrust washer at all. Pinion thrust washers are both in tact. Diff made no noise, and no metal in the fluid. Just seems unusual, and parts book shows each gear having a thrust washer. I do know there were varying thicknesses to the washers, too.
Want to get several opinions here... should I get this rebuilt, or would you run it? Or is it easy enough to to replace the thrust washers, and I could just do it myself? I would think I would just have to follow the manual procedure for up until I hit "Drive Pin Removal," which, theoretically, I wouldn't have to do to replace the thrust washers. Question of course would be washer thickness. Thanks in advance your advice and experience.

I'll have to look. That module is fairly simplistic so it doesn't even store when a part was added. So there would have to be alot code added to support any of that. Pretty sure if the user field is a static text field as opposed to a user ID.

So, where does one get new tires for their 28 Packard these days? (Mine is a 443) I don’t know just how old mine are but I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve been on there since the car was restored in the late 80s.

Here is a short vid about brake shoe arcing. That's how we did drum brake jobs through the 70's. You got full shoe contact with the drum and didn't have to wait for the shoes to wear in. It was most important when cutting the drum oversized. With the advent of disc brakes on the front axle and drums on the rear, it became less important, mostly because braking imbalance would be felt more in the steering wheel and sometimes you could not adjust it out. You would have to wait for the shoes to wear in.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-ZF200ZSVs
