I don't know if the Ultramatic indicator piece carried on with the Flite-Glo instrument lighting theme since the owners manual says it is illuminated any time the ign switch is on. If so and it still glows, the paint in the letters may be cracked and barely hanging on. Just like the instruments, when you disassemble to polish the indicator try to protect the paint on the pointer and take care with the paint in the letters on back of the plastic. If the paint is damaged or chunks fall off the pointer or letters they will become splotchy or not glow at all.

I glossed over his phrasing. I wonder if he's thinking of a different type.

I've used Crest toothpaste to successfully clean up scratched / hazed over plastic.

Part's stores such as Autozone carry a product that works well also.

Your shift indicator cover is acrylic but the same polish should work

Yes, that's the way I've always understood it/done it. This quote from Red is what threw me off: "2. Hit the end of the puller hard straight-on with a sledge hammer several times". I wanted to bring it up so that the was no confusion for others who will read this in the future.

Hook up a volt meter that you can see what driving. See if it's putting out over 7 volts while driving.

On my car right after starting it and it high idle with the choke on ill see the Amp meter jump to around 30 amps for a few moments then slowly come down to just right of zero. Now I have an alternator, but that is what happens for me on the Amp gauge.

I'm sure the initial 30 Amp jump is the alternator turning on and possible high charging for a new moments to recover what was lost on the battery from running the starter.

The 1937 120/138 CD models came with a chrome plated steering columns as part of the CD package. So I would imagine that was at least offered if not standard on the twelves.
