Re: 359 questions

That’s interesting as the Delco used was apparently standard on the 359 with no Autolite option as far as I know. In any event, the Delco in my 1954 Patrician has always readily started it. I recently bought an NOS solenoid for it which I’ve net yet needed to install as the original is still going strong.

On my 1956, the shop that installed the tires also does wheel powder coating so it killed two stones with one bird. Maybe there’s one like that near you!

1951 Henney 3 way from Ebay Motors: This one appears to be the same model used in the 1980 cult classic horror film "The Hearse" starring Trish Van Devere and Joseph Cotten.

Actually the coach shown in the movie was a mishmash of years and was likely not a Nu-3-Way as the one on eBay is. It was probably an end-loader as they are called when the rollers are built directly into the floor. For many years I had a virtually identical 1952 version of the eBay car that even won Best in Class at a PAC national meet, not that there was much competition!

Easy to tell it’s a 359 even without the proper aluminum head due to the long studs! The aluminum head is much thicker that the cast iron head.

I’m not sure what has changed between yesterday and today but I’ve had to log back in each and every time I’ve opened the site even if away only a moment researching something! Something likely here on my end but not sure what might cause it.

This is a two-relay Delco-Remy diagram but should also be typical of your Autolite. The Field terminal, as I recall and shown at the right here, is the one at the top when they are separated as they are on yours while the other two are as shown.

You probably already have the tag that should have come with your VRR4005A with some details.

The tire shop put those on my 1951 Henney-Packard and at first I had very mixed feelings about them because they looked so much nicer than the rest of the car which is quite rough! It did prompt me to clean up the beauty rings, though, and on your beautiful car they look great.

If you take the terminal screws off, are the terminal tabs stamped under those?

This is the factory A/C type so be sure it’s NOT this type if you buy a replacement anywhere..

Re: Transmission question

The Ultramatic experts can answer better but sounds like perhaps the governor is starting to stick. I once drove my 1953 Patrician about 100 miles, some of it in traffic, with a completely stuck governor so I had to shift to neutral to stop, then rev and drop into gear to get moving agin. On the older Ultramatics at least, it turned out to be very easy to fix as the governor was accessible under a stamped steel cover on the side where I was able to remove it, free it up and reinstall it. Had I known I could have done it along the road as I had tools with me! I suspect it might be a little harder to do on a Twin Ultramatic, though.
