I did my 54 Clipper and found that the horn doesn't sound very good and the blower motor from a 55 Packard fits nicely and works well. I also did my starter as the 6 volt one will eventually break down. All of this was recommended by the experts on this site and I have found their advice to be 100% correct for my 54 Clipper.

Here is the 54 Clipper that I started on 5 years ago. Everyone who helped I really appreciate your time and info,THANK YOU . I have decided to enjoy the Clipper and not spend the money needed to do the body work and new paint. It has more than exceeded my dream of completing a classic car and I could not have done it without the support of this group. I drive it with my neighbor boys every week and have now grown to driving it over 15 miles one way to cruises and car shows. I hope it lasts longer than me I will continue to support the web site and help anyone who needs some of my new knowledge. I will also post some of the parts I removed from the car for shipping cost so someone else can save a Packard .

Thanks for the tips. I have 2 car shows in May and will do the job in June or July. I will leave the cap loose until then and for sure check the plugs.

I notice a slight water leak on the middle bolt at the back of the cylinder head. Does this mean pulling the head and replacing the gasket immediately or when summer is over?

Finally got the instrument panel out of my 54 Clipper. Used a quarter inch ratchet, a long extension, and a phillips head in the socket. My dash had phlilips head screws and not the studs with small nuts on them. They will not be replaced !
Changed all the bulbs, the panel was clean and shiny, the gold back ground really looks good. Thanks for all the suggestions, it took a while to get this accomplished and that makes it better

Good work! What you are doing is similar to what happened in the late 40's and after with old fords and chevys. Cut them down and strip them, make them go faster and look cool

I used copper nickle on my 54 Clipper. Brake lines and Gas lines. It is really easy to work with. A bit more expensive, but saves a lot of time.

Thanks for the suggestions 1. on just removing the light bulb sockects. 2. Removing some of the swithes to gain access to the nuts.

Will try and will repost for future dash removal owners.

3. I have had the seat cushion out but not the frame. May try that with my neighbor.

I have tried several times to get the two nuts removed from the instrument panel on my 54 CLipper. I cannot get it done, I need to replace all the bulbs. Any tips would be good, I cannot get my hands or a tool on the nuts. Am I just not trying hard enough? I don't know if having the seat out would help with getting my hands or a tool in to loosen the nuts.
