Those cars were listed here about seven or eight years ago (looked more promising then). At the time the convertinle looked pretty solid and I pondered it but too far for me. I never got a number on the convertible alone. In the past three or so years a few have come out of the woodwork. At least one or two would have yielded the trim. There was one in NY that probably fell apart if someone moved it and was missing a lot though it sold for about $2.5k. They are rare though, probably 50-60 left can't be too many more to chose from if you want to restore one.

The decklid trim on a Victoria is specific to that model.. sedan won't work. Following is still strong for this model. Check out the one he sold for $18k.. clearly better than this one, but needed everything and didn't run.

I won't be talking you out of it, but you won't get it for under $6k. This is the car from the Louis Abelove auction (hope I spelled correctly) a couple years or so ago. It sold then for just under $6k +10%, then he bought tires and a few other things it seems. It was bid to over $7k just a week or two ago and didn't sell there. A month ago, he had another, much better condition and a lot of NOS chrome. That one sold for over $18k (that surprised me). These have a small but dedicated following.

Your biggest challenge will be the chrome around the trunk lid. Mine was missing only the center connector but I found a guy who made me one.

Good luck going after it! My favorite postwar Packard. If you do and post a thread, I would like to compare notes. Mine is an early one too, though that one is really early in production. It will also get my butt in gear on it... though my wife will not like me taking time from the house remodel/addition I'm doing!

The more I think about it... I'm pretty sure I've seen U-Haul trailers being towed by personal vehicles. Maybe some branches will rent? I will say, on a couple trips I've had to call around to get answers etc. I've found the larger branches to be the most knowledgeable with a couple exceptions of mom-and-pop franchises going the extra mile for me.

I have rented a lot of equipment from United.. very easy to use. I was unaware they had car-haulers. There is Penske too. I'd avoid trying Budget, that call was a waste of my time. If you do have to rent a truck, be sure to rub some extra Saddle Soap in your wallet beforehand... VERY expensive since Covid.

Kevin,

I have towed all my cars at one point or another with their trailers, never an issue. They will want to discuss and require a specific size truck in their fleet depending on the weight of the vehicle. Never just rented the trailer, though I've thought about doing that.. maybe they won't allow for liability reasons. You have to look the rig over good (some worse than others).

PS - don't store sodas under the passenger seat as the exhaust must run underneath and it gets very hot, ask me how I found this out while towing the '48 in five lanes of rush hour traffic.

I won a free ceramic coating at a car show but never used it. Its suppose to be the latest and greatest thing and better than wax. Anyone know anything about that?

I just tried it on my new truck. I bought the Mckee's 37 kit after looking at a few options. I have always used wax and was skeptical. There are multiple steps, and it took 2-3 Sundays of spare time to do it right. I didn't let the truck see rain until it was complete. It's a spare vehicle so that allowed me to take my time and do it correctly. You have to get over the psychological aspect of a very thin coating taking the place of a thick coating of wax. This week it saw its first rain event and the beading was as good or better than any wax job I've done. Very slick to the touch too. It is supposed to last three years.. time will tell, so far happy with it.

I have not had to do this myself.. throwing that caveat out there. If it were me, I'd probably throw my dial gauge indicator on it and look for runout. Thinking perhaps plastigauge may help indicate where you have a problem too.

I always liked this model. Curious too if there is any connection to the Hayes bodied Chrysler products designed by Dean Clark.
