ECAnthony
As Owen said, there are three different tanks 1948-50:

Eight -- 17 gal.

Super Eight and Custom Eight -- 20 gal.

Commercial vehicles -- 20 gal. (I think), but different than Super/Custom.

1948-50 tanks are different from 1941 Clipper to 1947s.

Re: Anyone know where the Last Packard from South Bend is?

Home away from home

ECAnthony
According to Steven Kelley's article, “Packard: A Quest for Answers,” published in The Boulevard News of East Grand Packards (a region of The Packard Club), in the March-April 2006 issue: The last Packard ever assembled was built on July 25, 1958, one of 15 built that day. A four-door sedan painted solid Mountain Blue, its serial number was 58L-8134, body #905, engine #2123. Equipped with a manual transmission, it featured an optional overdrive, whitewall tires, Climatizer heater, push button radio, and a manual rear deck antenna. Its delivery destination, and its fate today, are unknown.

Home away from home

ECAnthony
A new biography of James J. Nance has been published.

The life of James J. Nance is told — in full — for the first time. From humble beginnings in Ohio at the turn of the 20th century, to the heights of the business world in the fields of appliances at Frigidaire and Hotpoint, in the automobile industry at the Packard Motor Car Company, Studebaker-Packard Corporation and the Ford Motor Company, banking at the Central National Bank in Cleveland, finance at First Union Real Estate Investments, and his return to the Packard world via The Packard Club, Nance’s story is one of triumph and tragedy.

Volume One covers the years 1900 to 1954. Volume Two covers the years 1955 to 1984. Both softcover books measure 8½” x 11”. Volume One is 204 pages and sells for $19.95 US. Volume Two is 320 pages and sells for $29.95 US. Both books are available through Amazon.com.

The author, Stuart R. Blond, has been editing regional, national, and international newsletters and magazines for The Packard Club since 1983. His writing and editing has won him numerous awards from multiple organizations.

Autographed copies may be obtained for $28. (for Volume One), and $38. (for Volume Two) directly from the author. Send payment via PayPal to: stuartrblond@earthlink.net. This includes Priority postage in the USA.

Don Hull - RIP
Home away from home
Home away from home

ECAnthony
Don Hull, the long-time president of Packards International, as well as the editor of the Packards International Magazine, passed away on Saturday, September 25, after a five-year battle with colon cancer.

A memorial is planned for October 10 at Don's beloved Piecemakers store at 1720 Adams Ave., Costa Mesa, California (corner of Adams and Mesa Verde Drive East just west of Harbor Blvd.). Please arrive around 10:30 am for coffee. A short service will be held at 11:00 am, followed by lunch around noon, with music by the Piecemakers Band and a fabulous display of the object of his passion—Packards!

If possible, please bring your Packards. There is plenty of parking and the entire lot will be devoted to Packards. Also, bring your stories about Don to share!

Please let Cathy Hull cathy.hull45@gmail.com know if you are planning to come so that there is enough food on hand.

The car is (was) a "Convertible", the Mayfair name only being used on the two-door hardtop.
