Is there any way to track the history of a packard by previous owners? I am trying to track down this packard that my grandparents had a long time ago. I believe this is a 1953 Mayfair, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, it is a '53 Mayfair. Do you have any vehicle ID info? Vehicle Number (VIN), Engine Number? Original selling Dealership?

Without any of that, it would be very difficult to find the exact car unless a current owner knows the "chain of custody" linking back to your family.

Would it be possible to contact the department of motor vehicles for registration history by name?

DMVs, at least where I live, do not give out that information to anyone not in law enforcement but one would also have to know in which state it is currently registered to even start!

What Don said. Due to changes in privacy laws and stalker laws, they won't give out any information like that. Also, most records are purged after 10 years.

If your family was ever part of the Packard Club and they registered their vehicle with the Roster keeper, then it's possible they know where it went and/or if another person registered that same car later.

If you knew the vehicle number, then we could check it also against the Registry here. But without any ID number, your changes of tracing the exact car get very low as there is nothing to to prove if it was the right car. Unless the curent owner has paperwork showing a chain of custody back to your family.

The car is (was) a "Convertible", the Mayfair name only being used on the two-door hardtop.

I believe the car in the picture is indeed a hardtop. The top is shiny in the light, and doesn't have the harder angles of the convertible top.
