Have you checked out Bill Hirsch, SMS, and LeBaron Bonney? Very close fabrics are available. In my experience, if you use a polyblend instead of wool, the look is quite noticeably different - the synthetic is shiny.

First of all, not all repro "rubber" is rubber. Some are various thermoplastics. So step one is to figure out out what is used in that profile (ask Steele to check). Then contact 3M for a recommendation. If it's an EPDM or other rubber, some of the formulae "bloom" - exude a whitish slippery deposit. Wipe this off in the area to bond with Isopropyl alcohol before sticking it on. There is no "one magic product bonds all material" adhesive.

I think the 41's did have a painted dash and garnish option (I don't have the option data book handy) - I think it would be most likely chosen if the buyer also went for the upholstery option with the two-tone broadcloth and color coordinated plastic.
