On Sunday mornings, weather permitting, I take my 47 Clipper to Panera for breakfast and then a drive to the Mt. Vernon estate along the GW Parkway. She starts right up and the OD works flawlessly since Ross Miller tinkered with the OD. Even with crappy ethanol gas, it is amazing how quiet the engine is at idle. Great engineering!

Packard instrument board servicing.

It appears from several postings on here that the instrument board was designed by Packard to be serviced while installed.
I need to install an ammeter on my 1947 clipper and am not sure how to get the new one in. I can pull the old one but putting in a new one would be very difficult as one must get under the dash with your head resting on the brake and clutch pedals and carefully put in the screws securing the ammeter to prevent cross threading them. Also, changing bulbs is not easy. Not many men my age can even do this (I have doing yoga for many years). What is the method Packard technicians used to service the instruments? Looking forward to responses!!

I would suggest the late 30's. The senior cars were of Rolls Royce quality and were hand assembled and customized to anything the customer wanted. The 12 cylinder cars are especially treasured these days.

I had a knocking noise in one of my cars (not Packard) and it was the engine mount...I was soooo relieved!! Check the engine mounts??

Definitely try something like Seafoam or another chemical first. When I first bought my car, the lifters were noisy. I used chemicals and got it down to about 10% of what it was.

The one on the right is an Autolite.
