Should be under that cover you removed mounted to the pump body. Check out Kevs article on rebuilding pump in tech tips for more detail but here's snap showing the screen.

Thanks for posting where all can see the setup. As I mentioned in an earlier post, for my 2 cents I think the pulley is a good idea because it's correct size so less danger of over revving the compressor & also appears to use a wider belt. Am not convinced on bracket however--mostly because it requires moving/replacing generator. I believe there was an earlier post & picture of a possibly aftermarket type bracket that mounted in original Packard location. Believe it was by Mr Vines but not certain. (The way we mix our post subjects, didn't find it doing a quick search.) Anyway, if someone were to make that type available, it seems to me a better way to go -even if it requires moving oil filter-since we have plenty of hood clearance and it keeps things in stock locations.

IIRC the Torque flite conversion was first done by Harold Gibson of the PI club in Southern California. Remember at the last PI meet that was held up the road from current location the test chassis with conversion was shown. I don't know if it was officially sponsored by the club like their oil pump fix however, but it was advertised in club publications.

I'm a bit older but share your sentiments. Also grew up with a 47, a pair of 51's and at the end dad brought home a 56 400 the dealer was practically giving away. Alas, Mom said no 2 doors. That 56 is the first Packard I fell in lust with.

Inherited one of the 51's through HS in early 60s and I can say, if a car ever had a rougher life, I'd pity it. It had been cross country several times before me and the things I did to "that old mans car" should be a crime. It hung in and was still going when I graduated so that is a strong point for that era.

Having said that, I've had (and have) V8s with all the doo-dads and no problems to speak of. Granted, they are a bit peculiar electrically in some aspects so the average mechanic will throw their hands up and either say it can't be fixed or mess it up trying. That's a major down but the fact you have something different is a plus and with sites like this, you'd be surprised what you can take care of. The elect and TL aside, V8s aren't too different mechanically than the other era.

As far as dreaming big, the 47 is an exceptionally fine car too. Everything straight forward so I think your choice would be more to what you'd really like to see in the driveway and to be seen in.

Your points are well taken and I don't claim to be an engine guy by any stretch but I still think with all the high drama going on behind the scenes from 53 forward, it's amazing things came off as well as they did. Just look at what they did recognize and fix, then imagine what another year or so and some money would have accomplished.

There is normally a ceramic type element about 3/4 ht of bowl and slightly less in diameter held in position by a spring at bottom. I have not been able to find the correct size replacement aftermarket. At one time I checked with a Packard vendor with no luck but that may have changed. The one I did find was for another make & was too large diameter and expensive, hence the effort to replace with modern paper which is detailed on the site. Another poster improved on my effort if you do a search. Recently I saw that restoration supply company has same type setup but with replaceable paper element. It's on page 11 of their catalog but unknown if it would fit either.

Edit: just saw Kevs post and 10 bucks is the way to go. If I remember, the price for the wrong one was close to 20 and the paper one on rest supply is 12. My paper retrofit was also about 10 plus stuff I had around.

Am not sure if the nag screen is a good idea but 100% on having an opt out if there is one. Some people for whatever reason maybe aren't ready or just don't want to advertise or add themselves to lists. I'd encourage them to visit, participate in forums with their opinions, questions or expertise and maybe possibly someday donate material than get PO'd and leave.

A screen shot off the owner registry showing differences between yours and a 56 hood-roughly same view. Main difference is in louvers and sculpturing.
Was going to scan originals but there seems to be a lack of front-on shots of 55 Caribbeans in factory literature. All other models well represented in 55 but not top O'line -- mostly side or rear 3/4--but plenty of 56's.
Having said that, am sure now others will point out the gaps in my collection, but thought it interesting in the several pieces I have.

Looks like you have things well thought out. Am not familiar with all components you have planned but sounds good---and a bit of work since I don't recall anyone advertising adapter kits for 54 Packards. Have you settled on which window system you are going with--see several different types from "ribbon tape to cable to replace your hand crank with an add on motor" so curious as to what you picked and the advantage.

Steele has one listed in 1948 section that will work but is not ribbed like 55-6. The hole edges have to be protected as the hose is fixed but flexes at cowl side and slides in and out the door about 6 inches. The original edges on mine when stripped appeared to be a smooth piece welded in but I think a modern plastic grommet strip could be used and painted. Maybe a plastic "chrome" door edge strip might work if it can be made flexible enough to go around. RV places have a decorative flexible edge strip also but might be too thick. Ideal would be electronic chassis protector strip as it comes in various sizes but most stores don't want to stock that stuff much anymore.

EDIT: Was thinking you being a smart fella, maybe something like this could be adapted and made to look sorta orginal for lots less money. Watsons has several sizeshttp://www.watsons-streetworks.com/holeshot_door_solenoids.html
