I'd just like to say thanks to everyone for their friendly and helpful information on this site. I joined the other site which Mr Czirr now moderates, a year or so ago (no longer a forum member), and to my disappointment not one response came, one offline that's all, I thought at the time, somewhat unkindly I guess, "These Packard Folks must be a bunch of unfriendly snobs" as it was so different from the Studebaker Drivers Club where one can say "Hi, I've just purchased an "X" and need advice, and by that night several posts have appeared welcoming said person and answering their queries.

Well done everyone!!!

Now, the above is "NOT" a personal criticism of Dave Czirr or anyone else, just my experience. Maybe it's changed now. I thought that saying I was from Australia may not have helped.

I saw an Economist magazine recently which suggested the only way for the US to get out of debt is to increase tax revenues and decrease spending on Social Security. Said that President Obama didn't know what to do, and Congress won't touch Social Security.

Maybe you could give Texas to the Chinese in exchange for the billions in US debt they have.

The day may even come when the US will have to do what China wants or risk being bankrupted by a refusal to lend any more money, but that would also screw the Chinese as their Billions would be worthless I imagine.

If the worst comes to the worst, we like Americans here in Australia. In fact I saw an interview where Mark Reuss of GM stated that he intends to retire here. You could do worse, and be guaranteed of health insurance by our scheme "Medicare."

The other point is - How much debt can the US economy take, seems crazy to imagine borrowing unlimited sums, already Trillions of dollars in debt, Ye Gods!

Has there been any more information on this car? Seems a shame that it's just a non-running shell in AZ, that fellow did a good job and it'd be nice to see it done up.

There is a product (liquid) called Lizard Skin, which is easily applied and flows to every part of the car to which it's applied. Maybe this is an alternative to Dynamat? I first heard of it via the Classicresto website from NY state.

Surely the problem is with the company who made the accelerator pedals, they weren't made (I imagine) by Toyota?

I hope to see Owen's RHD article sometime, now that Peter has some information. Perhaps the British Packard clubs would have information.

Sadly, I suppose any information the factory had was likely burnt in the boilers as was much of the "rubbish."

Owen, I have a couple (have to check) of Kellow Falkiner ads from the 20s. probably right though, a well established dealer could likely do conversions.

March 1st 1924 is the earliest reference to KF, I imagine they were there from the start of aussie sales as they did (maybe still do) sell Rolls Royce vehicles.

I should think the conversions were done upon arrival here in Australia, just as they are now by companies importing American Ford, GM and Chrysler Trucks and Mustangs/Camaros.

Packard Built Studebakers

Considering that Studebaker was a subsidiary of the Packard Motor Company (vale June 1956) doesn't that mean from a corporate sense that all vehicles produced from the end of the Packard factory until the end of Studebaker in 1966 were actually Packard built Studebakers?

Certainly the way to go, a reinvigorated engine which will last for many years. Best of luck with the Stude (er) PACKARD.
