Wow, pretty shiny tubes and fittings. Very nice. As you noticed, I haven't replaced the fuel lines on the engine. I plan on re-painting the engine back to its original cream color at which time I may replace the fuel lines on the engine, if I get confident enough to bend and flair the metal lines.

I think I have one or two of the short filters in my collection, but I don't recall whether they have the filter elements or not. Probably not, knowing my luck.

I obtained my Carter fuel filters from eBay. Sometimes you can get quite a deal there, other times sellers think those things are made of solid gold. Keep watching and you'll find something.

Just a quick note to state that I haven't abandoned my '55 Patrician project. Right now a leaking BTV master cylinder is holding up taking the car off of the jackstands. I'm afraid that I won't be able to remove the master cylinder, replace the missing copper washers, and re-install it before the spring.

Unfortunately, I've become involved with a Sea Scout Ship and repairing and maintaining sailboats and outboard motors have taken up my valuable spare time that would have otherwise been used on the Packard.

I am now retired so my available time has grown considerably and come spring, progress on the Patrician should be forthcoming!

I had the 400 out for a Sunday drive a month or so ago with my grandson tagging along. As I pulled into the parking lot of my son's apartment complex for a visit, the front passenger's tire blew, necessitating a tire change.

The jack and lug wrench that I had available in the truck proved insufficient for the task and I resorted to calling AAA road service. The tow truck driver who arrived was surprised at the vehicle and it turned out that he is an old car afficiando and the tire change took about five minutes and we spent the next 10 to 15 minutes chatting about classic and antique vehicles we had owned or worked on. It was a pleasant experience, although it didn't start out that way.

New tires for the 400 are definitely in the future before the spring driving season.

Re: Door glass installation

The particular piece of door glass that I am trying to install in my 400 came from the driver's door of a '56 Caribbean, so it should be the same size, right? I know that the door glass from an Executive might be a problem since that was basically a dressed up Clipper.

I'll have to measure the Caribbean glass and the window that I originally took out of the 400 to see if they match. I'd be surprised if they did not, though.

Well, I managed to get the missing copper washers from NAPA and will be removing the master cylinder to install them and then bench-test the thing before it is re-installed. At least there were no leaks coming from the four wheel cylinders when the system was filled with fluid, only leak was the master cylinder and that was my fault. Too eager to get the re-build master into the Patrician, I guess.

Some other responsibilities have interfered with my work on both the Patrician and the Four Hundred - I became a Sea Scout Ship Skipper in October of 2012 and much of my spare time on weekends from March through October revolves around boating with my Sea Scouts as well as maintaining our fleet of sail and motor boats and servicing our Ship's outboard engines. I'm hoping to get enough time once the Ship's fleet is ship-shape to return to the Packards with a little more gusto.

Well, folks, I know that it has been a while since I've posted anything on the family's two '55 Packards. I'll try and bring you up to date.

The '55 Four Hundred remains the family driver whilst the Patrician remains on jackstands in the garage. I'm still trying to install new glass in the doors of the Four Hundred without much success. Even moving the two window channels closest to each other, the window still fails to fit into both of the channels, The windows are the right size since they come from donor '55-'56 Packard 400 doors. I've been banging my head againt the door for a while now trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. It is quite frustrating.

I tood the window glass out of the doors of my '55 Four Hundred to replace cracked windows. I have been having one heck of a time getting the window to stay in the window channel in order to re-install the windows. Even when I have the window channels at their maximum adjustment level towards each other, the window just doesn't go into both channels, like the window is simply too small. One of the windows comes from a donor door and just won't fit into the channels.

Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

I picked up a pair of '55 senior roof emblems a few years ago from emblem magic and am quite pleased with them. They are not cheap, however.

Howard, on my '55 Pat my power seats and windows are inoperable and I've picked up a spare pair of relays to replace the ones on the firewall in the engine compartment. The only guage on the instrument panel that works is the ammeter. All else is inoperable even when the engine is running. I've replaced all of the fuzes under the dash with new ones so I know they are not the problem. Any thoughts? (

Sorry for busting in on this thread)
