I know this is an old thread but bringing it back to top since my gauge needs to be repaired.

Does anyone know where I can purchase the gauge that is in the repair link?

Or is there anyone out there repair that can repair our original ones?

Ross, that is a neat looking car. I like the affect that sectioning does when the top is not chopped. The shortened wheelbase works well with the sectioning too. I have always liked the full rear wheel cut out on the road race Packards. What is going on with the pre-war "speedster" in the background?

Thanks for prompt reply again - the photos are great and I'm sure will be a great help to me

I've altered the Topic name - for us anyways - as we aren't talking about CKDs to S Africa anymore !! Funny thing is I seem to remember that I started a Topic on door seals some time back and the response was mimimal.

I'll get out my Steele Rubber new rubbers I purchased and see if I can concoct a core in some material that will last longer than the first trip out in the rain !!

One small query : do the ones you have on your car look as though the rubber was moulded on ? or are the core and the rubber separate ? answer to that one will be agreat help too.

By the way over here we call the Jack Russells "rough coated" (my Daughter's) and "smooth coated" (yours)

Photos attached which show my car yesterday when she was outside with better light and I was able to get a little further away for a better shot or two plus she has the trunk lid attached now.

The Old Guy (about my age I guess !!) in photos 1 & 2 was fascinated as you can see. What colour is YOUR steering wheel please ? Thinking of doing mine cream to match the roof ?

Why not just pull the cylinder head? It is an easy job to do and then you will know the condition of the bores for sure.

Are the doors and windows of the 55-56 4 door Clippers and Packards the same size? I don't think they are as I believe the extra wheelbase of the senior cars is between the wheels, not from the cowl forward as in 23rd series and back. Thanks.

One more word on this: The 288 engine was not introduced until the 22nd series 1948 models, and was continued through to the 54th series 1954 models. The engine in production in 1947 was the 282 version. I suppose a 288 could have been installed to replace a 356 at some time in the past like O_D said.

Not sure if I have contacted Steele but Kantor (we all know them) said that they have the Super 8s for 1938 (no Eights) but I am not sure they are just an outlet for Steele or have their own factory for rubber. Anyways, the Super8 mats are different than the Eights as per Kantor's note. They claim the Super8s are rectangles and not stripes. I am not exactly sure also if they will have to be altered, and how much, to fit the car and how closely they look to mine assuming mine are original.

Are the 1939s the same as the 1938s? Mine have 5 full long rectangular stripes with 7 partial stripes getting progressively smaller as the board gets wider. The stripes are solid rubber bump-like shapes. It also has a curved back up to the door frame bottom. Of course a curved front lip to the molding. Based on the fact that I know almost the complete history of this car I am assuming these are the original boards. I will be very interested in what Steele has to say regarding the replacements.

Someone mentioned that the aftermarket mats are really extrusions and butted with end caps. I have a 1940 Chevy that has new OEM styled mats and they are one piece units. I have also seen that on Packards too. Are the Steele units one piece? Any ideas on that?

At this point I am not yet looking to the Rhino solution but will be interested in the results. I am still looking for the needle in the haystack...

I hesitate to answer exactly what this fits, as there may be slight differences between Juniors and Seniors. This cap (or type of cap) with the script was used for all the early 1940 Packards. However, I don't recall the red hex in the background of the Senior cars. The cloisonne cap was introduced later in the year.
