Thanks BigKev, there may be a point when I take you up on that. First, I am going to try with great diligence to completely ruin it here, I have everything to gain. I have attached a couple pics, so you can see what I'm up against. I would have actually tried a little bit tonite, but it's colder than a you-know-what out there, maybe if you look close you can see the swirling snow storm raging outside if you squint.

Thanks for the input guys. What ever the reason was, I think that just about anything is gonna look better that how it is now. I have a plan of using this stuff called Demon Clean, a fellow a couple towns over (Ansonia) is marketing. I have used it in the past to clean up delicate parts and what-not, as it is a bit pricey. I will do a test area first; a small swatch, wait for the bubble, and follow with a damp sponge to neutralize the action, hopefully before it starts eating into the wood grain. Worst case, I end up repainting it, anything would be better.

At some point in the past 70 years, for reasons unknown, someone painted over the dash board in my 1282. Is there any way of removing this without destroying the "walnut grain" treatment underneath? The paint is old and flaky, and looks like the dickens. I can see the wood grain under it, which would look alot better, even if not mint. Thanks in advance.

Wanted to add an enlightening post about some great feat of success on a random monumental task recently accomplished, but there's none. Hell, at this moment I bet it's about a balmy 19 degrees in the garage, and now the door is frozen shut due to the lovely New England winter conditions. Couldn't take it out if I wanted to. Have to stare at it through the window. After that, I head in before the feet freeze down, drop another log on the fire, enjoy a frosty beverage, and think about it. I sure do miss my Packard!

Part # on the ornament shown is 341853, and is 12 1/2" long. It is longer than the one on my '39, which is more like 10 1/2" (goddess base). The best thing to do is measure your car from the front "lip" to the hood trim, and determine which you need. If it's 12 1/2", I may be willing to part with the one I have.

Thanks for the replys, that's kind of what I figured. If you think about it, I bet the major differences are linkage hook ups, like on the right or left, front or back etc. I went ahead and got the kit for the 466S carb, I suspect the accelerator pump myself. I'll rekit the whole thing as long as I have it apart, just so I know what I have.

Correct. The bail and feather unit is it's own base, while the goddess bolts to a smooth base in the same shape and mounting arrangement. It mounts through a square hole in the shell, and is friction fit by means of a stack of flat pieces of spring steel pinned to the base. The rear has a square guide slot, and slides into the hood trim strip. I would photo'd the goddess too, but it's cold in the garage.

The 1940 has a longer "tail" which is to say the 1939 (feather or goddess) will fall short of your hood trim, even though the mounting is the same.

It is mounted by a 2 band bracket arrangement that utilizes 2 of the head bolts, alongside the thermostat housing. I am sure this is not original, but works very well. The inlet line attaches to a fitting on the block, with a small bypass to the neck base. The outlet attaches to the base of the filler neck. The line going up and over is the vacuum advance to the carb.
