The American ambassador in Moscow drove Packard (duh!), equipped with a roof rack.

Hmmmmm. Does that mean that there is German law that says no one in Germany can discuss or reference anything that has to do with WWII or the 3rd Reich????? I was unaware of that. Or what are the restrictions of discussion???

No restrictions of discussion, Germany is a free country and it is a pleasure to live in. According to German law it is disallowed to use the old state emblems, insignia and the like. That's it.

What year is the Packard in the picture????? About what year was the picture taken????

The picture was taken in August 1939. The car should be a 1937 that rolls on oversized wheels. Take a look to its open window, it resembles a breakthrough in a wall made of glass bricks rather than a car window.

Armored Twelve. Its passenger is Joachim von Ribbentrop, Foreign Minister of Germany from 1938 until 1945 and hanged as one of the major war criminals.
According to German law I obliterated the swastika flag and explicitly distance myself from any political intension, connected with the photograph.
The picture source is an old newsreel.

And the winner is ....... Brian! Allow me to congratulate you! Your willingness were our last resort and I'm happy to have good news. According to --> rule G) you are freed of your duties.
Mal, this competition has more than one winning member. You gave Brian a run for his money and moreover many of us know that he is very proficient in the field of postwar eyecatchers. I could very well imagine how hard you've fought. Sincere thanks to both of you especially in the name of PackardInfo.com and on my own behalf. Much obliged, gentlemen.

Over and above thank you to all the nameless sponsors!
