treadle vac master cylinder

I hate asking this for fear what I will find out. I cleaned out the treadle vac master cylinder reservoir. Dead center 12 oclock position on the top of the cylinder there is a chip missing in the cylinder wall where the piston sits. Looks like a little key way passage Its even with the drain hole in the top of the master cylinder reservoir and right in front of the compensator value. Tell me this is suppose to be there.

I saw another Packard owner today at the store. It was a 1941 Packard tan in color , man that car was nice. Talk to him for about 10 minutes, I have a 53 patrician, I met another guy last month that has a 52 clipper. So far there are 3 packards in Oklahoma city that I know of. Can't wait for my power brake repair kit to get here so I can drive my Packard on the road.

Hey Fred Kanter do you have a Phenolic washer in your rebuild kit. I don't see a pic at your site.

I removed my bendex treadlevac brake cylinder today. A lot of nasty brake dryed fluid. I broke the Phenolic washer that goes on the piston shaft the goes into the brake cylinder. Went to Max Merritt site and saw the rebuilt kit , it has everything I need except a new Phenolic washer. Where do I find such a item.

My paint code shows BH on the door. Yosemite blue and Meridian blue poly. Here are the colors on the car now. I know the top is dark blue and bottom light blue, but the color charts don't match my cars BH code. The chart shows two dark blues for BH. The light blue is Polaris blue. I found a two tone Patrician that I think my car should look like original paint. The last owner painted it solid blue, I want original.

Puller,,,Best $60 dollars I ever spent. Hubs came right off with a little B/b blaster and puller. I see why you say leave the nut on the axle. Hit the puller a couple of time and BLAM she came off to the back of nut. The inside hubs look smooth and the shoes look like I could get another 30 thousand miles. Im rebuilding the wheel cylinders, flush the lines. The power brake doesn't look good , pulled the cap off found some power in there. No fluid anywhere. Second pic passengers side third pic drivers side.

What is the secret to removing the rear brake hubs. I think mine have been on there since 53. I have loosen the passengers side about 1/8 inch out from the inside hub axle shaft. P/b blaster, some heat, finger pulley, but it looks like the key way is stuck. I guess thats what you call that thing on the axle shaft. I'm calling around for a hub puller that bolts to the hub.

Just another weekend for us retired guys. I'm putting the cleaned out gas tank back on and the rebuilt fuel pump. Sure will be nice not to run her out of a 5 gallon plastic gas can. ha Everyone be safe and have fun weekend.
