Joe, thanks for taking time to address my question. I understand Marquette's place in auto history, but had never heard of Ewing. But regardless the statement makes no sense to me in the context of Packard in the time frame being discussed.

There is a John Z. Deloren listed in the Classic Car Club of America's 2009 Handbook and Members Roster. The address is in New Jersey.
Also, I understood from a friend, who owns a Deloren, that the Houston company was ready to start production on replicas just as soon as they could locate a right front fender to use as a pattern. He also said that this company has been a source of Deloren parts and service for many years and is well know in this community. P.S. What is the statement "...Packard, Ewing and Marquette..." mean? Who or what is Ewing? This makes no sense to me.

Here is the Engine Specification Table that was published in the September issue of the PAC's Cormorant News Bulletin. I would like to thank Dave Cizir and Dave Kenney for their help with this table. I hope you will find it useful.
Note: The attachment will be sent to Kevin so it can be posted in the Literature and Manuals Forum.

Casting date on lower right-hand side of engine just above bottom of engine and in front of bell housing. Casting date on cylinder head is for cylinder head, not engine.

51Packard, 1951 288 cu. in. engines had numbers in the J200000 series. Whether the engine numbering sequence started with 001 or 000 differs with various "sources". I believe they started with 001.
There should also be a casting date on the lower part of the engine just above where the oil pan surface is and just ahead of the bell housing. Your engine has a 3 1/2" bore, a 3 3/4" stroke, and develops 135 bhp at 3,600 rpm. The standard compression ratio for your engine and the 327 cu. in. engine is 7.00:1. It would seem that a standard compression ratio head for a 327, if fitted to your 288, would result in a lower than 7.00:1 ratio. A high compression head was offered in 1952 that was 7.50:1 and boosted the bhp to 138 at 3,600 rpm.

Mal, we here in the States have been reading about and watching news of the horrendous sand/dust storm that hit Sydney and surrounding areas. It looks like a serious and terrible weather event. I hope you, Wade, and everyone else were not too badly affected by the storm. Watching it reminds me of photos of dust storms here in the US's "Dust Bowl" during the 1930s. I also remember as a young lad in Santa Fe, New Mexico, we had bad dust storms. The dust and sand storms were the result of a house building boom in the late 1940s and early 1950s to satisfy a housing shortage after WW-II. The delicate top soil was scrapped away for roads and building sites, and with just a little wind was picked up and sent flying through the air. It was so thick at times that it blocked out the sun. It's all better now, but was a real problem at the time. I remember that my father always ordered Packards equipped with oil bath air cleaners because of the severe dusty conditions.
