Re: Dealer List

I am finishing up a project and might consider entering basic dealer information into a spread sheet like Kevin suggested. I like his idea of getting the basic information, then layering additional information later and/or as it becomes available. I did instigate this and feel some responsibility to it. Let me try the sample sheet O_D provided and see how it goes and how all of you out there like it. Okay?

I understand that a list would only be a snapshot of what existed at the time the list was compiled. I think the value would be in the information contained even thought it may not be easily extracted through some search routine. Just the scanned pages of a list like O_D has would be better than what we have. The Packard Dealers information on this website is interesting and somewhat useful, but only a small number are included.

Does anyone out there have a list of Packard dealers? If so, would you be willing to have it posted on this site for us to reference when searching for long lost dealerships? The older, the better. Thank you.

Kevin, Cafe Press offers a unique service and I have used for more than buying the PackardInfo T-shirt. I'm off to the site to order a mouse pad. Thanks for all the help on this.

Dave,If you think the restoration is stunning you should see his shop facility. Carpets on the floor! He did the mechanical work on my '47 Custom Clipper. The engine compartment is still stunning after almost 25 years.

Kevin, thanks for the dealer info. I have copied the attachment and may frame it or do like you did and have it imprinted on a mouse pad. Take care . . .

Dave, about the 1937 Twelve Phaeton, a '36 body on a '37 chassis. If this is the car I think it is, I had a chance to visit with its owner and he took much time to show me the car. It was on a lift at the time. He pointed-out many alterations that had to be done to fit the body. It still had its original tools and bag, and side curtains and bag. The last Phaeton made by Packard.

Kevin, this is interesting albeit a bit strange. My father graduated from the Riverside High School in 1918. I believe he mentioned working at the Packard dealership part-time after school and then full-time after graduation. This probably where he got his attraction for Packard motor cars.

Frank, if it were me I'd probably get the correct grille, bumper guards, and bumper now, then decide later if I wanted to change. This stuff could also be offered with the car when you sell it. As far as value goes, it doesn't matter until you sell it. You may think of your Packard as being unique.

Frank, personally I think the '51 grille is most attractive. I don't know how authentic you want the car to be, but you might think twice about replacing it. I really like the look. What did you do about the mis-matched tail lights? Very attractive car.

Edit: It was another '54 Clipper that had the mis-matched tail lights.
