Hi, there are some photos of am air conditioned '55 Packard 400 on the Car Shows Photos section from the AACA Texas Tour event. Hope they are useful.

Not according to anything that I have read.

Edit: Disregard the above. The option was first available in 1951. Beginning in March of that year.

There is an old saying that a flashlight (torch) is a metal cylinder for storing dead batteries.

Re: Fuel Pump Mounting Question

JWL
We have had discussions on this topic in the past. The oversize holes in the fuel pump engine mounting flange are to accommodate insulating fiber sleeves. In addition to the sleeves an insulating fiber gasket was used between the pump and the engine, and insulating fiber washers under the cap screws. All sorts of stuff has been used instead of the proper insulating fiber parts. As clipper47 notes there was also a provision for safety wiring the cap screws. Does your car have a heat shield between the manifolds and the fuel pump? This was also part of the original equipment. Good luck.

Don't forget the timing chain or timing gears. The oil pump is important. Push rods might need attention too.

A good trick to flush the back of the block is to adapt a long 1/4" copper tubing to a garden hose end. The tubing is small enough to get into tight places, and the small diameter provides a nice pressurized stream to better loosen the stuff out of the back of the block. You're welcome.

Mal, thanks for the description. It looks nice, but drilling a hole in the door is probably something I will not do, even for this appearance. Take care.

Dave, you are correct, the 327 cu. in. 300 engine was also an option for the 1952 200 and 200 Deluxe. There is no mention of the engine being an option for the 1953 Clipper (it was standard equipment on the Clipper Deluxe).

This type of hood was introduced with the 1941 Clippers and continued through the 1950 models.

Mal, thanks for the answer on the oil filter question. Now, do you or Wade have any information on how the oil filter was plumbed to the engine? Any help here is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
