Your idea to use an Allen Head bolt sounds promising. Let us know how it works out.

Tigress1517, I would not use a new resistor rotor. Replace it with the non-resistor type. These resistor rotors are problematic. Why invest in a future problem?

I marked the vibration damper on my 115C with timing marks since the marks on the flywheel are difficult to see. I made a pointer out of heavy gauge wire and attached it to one of the timing chain cover bolts. I then carefully marked the damper. This made adjusting the timing much easier. Also, these distributors have an "Octane Adjustment" so the timing can be easily adjusted to accommodate the varying quality of gasoline used in those days. The procedure for doing this is in the owner manual.

I have an Apple Macintosh SE with a Stylewriter II printer. It works as a stand alone, but is just for room decoration these days. Latest and greatest - in its day.

In my formerly owned 115C I used 15W-40 Classic Car oil in the engine (bought it from Classic Car Club of America). 85W-140 GL-l gear oil in the transmission and 85W-140 GL-5 gear oil in the differential. Actually, any 10W-30 engine oil will work too. Make sure the differential oil is GL-5 rated. GL-1 for the transmission is needed in the transmission and overdrive.

P.S. Don't worry about having to use high Zinc content motor oil. These straight eight Packard engines don't need it.

Ernie, curious about your Model A. Does it get out as often as the Packard? I know this is a Packard site, but maybe a few words from time to time on your Model A adventures would be interesting to read about. Are you familiar with Paul Shinn? He has many videos on the care and feeding of Model As on YouTube.

Weatherhead is/was a maker of brass fittings. Maybe there is an online listing for their parts.

I seem to recall seeing in one of the hot rod suppliers a push button kit for modern automatic transmissions being installed in older vehicles. Worth a look.

I don't know how to remove the horn button, but you should be able to disconnect the power lead to the horn relay instead of disconnecting the battery.

Carburetor accelerator pump/plunger? Easy enough to check if it is working. With the engine off and choke plate open and looking down into the throat of the carb, work the accelerator linkage to see if there is a stream of gas being pumped. Should be two streams as there are two jets.
