Re: 1928 533 Break Adjustment Issue

I use these instructions when adjusting the brakes on my 633 which I suspect is the same as the 533. I have had good results however I have never succeeded in having the brakes pull up absolutely evenly under all conditions.

https://www.packardinfo.com/xoops/html/downloads/1929_BendixBrakesServiceBulletin.pdf

These instructions are on this site, there is a lot of good information here.

There are two linkages on each side between the cross arm and the rear brake drums see attached drawing from the parts book. What information are you looking for?

The attached Packard body dimension drawings answer the question. In the 5th Series cars the difference is in the length of the bodies for the 2 and 4 passenger coupes. The 443 uses the same body as the 533 Coupe with the extra 10" in the hood. A 2 passenger 443 Coupe is not not listed in the 443 illustrations.

Re: 1928 533 choke rod

The choke knob connects to a horizontal rod to a crank on the inside of the firewall which connects to a vertical rod the runs down through a hole in the sloping aluminum floor connecting directly to an arm on the oil valve, another rod connects horizontally to the choke on the carburetor.
I can try to take some photos if that needs clarification but its a bit hard to see.

I have found on my cars that the small shaft the comes out of the oiler valve which passes through a small packed gland is a source of leakage that is difficult to access so I blocked the oil passages so that the rods simply operate the choke. The oil lines to the cylinders have always been blocked at the holes into the cylinders when I have had to strip the engine so blocking the oil supply does nothing when the lines are already blocked.

The linkage in your photos is for the hand throttle, operated by the RH steering wheel lever. It needs to be adjusted so it does not restrict the foot throttle travel.

There is a lug on the LHS of the sloping aluminum floor. The return spring connects horizontally to this lug and the back of the throttle lever, see photo
