Maybe some rust remover would help get the stains out but try it on a completely hidden area first!

Or better yet, paste it as a link to words rather than posting the link directly. In many cases, long URLs (links) pasted in directly causes copious scrolling back and forth just to read the rest of the post because they often do not wrap making it seem like one long word to some browsers.

Although either one will work, a link (using the little link/chain icon after highlighting the words you want to link) is better than

That's a good job and one I wouldn't want to tackle myself!

After cleaning points with sand paper whether voltage regulator or distributor, you should also burnish them with a clean piece of heavy paper. It removeds traces of grit and smooths the surfaces better than just paper alone.

Will be using the rear seat at least...

Are the rear seats the same between a 2-door hardtop and a 4-door sedan?

It is correct that you never, ever hit on the end of the puller. There have been other discussions here about what happens if you do and it wasn't pleasant! Sometimes on very stubborn drums you have to be very patient by giving it considerable rotational pressure with a sledge hammer, waiting (and maybe warming the hub a little), then more pressure and more waiting. It may take hours or even days but it will come off! I've also had good experience using an impact tool with socket on the end. Just be sure to leave the nut threaded on to its fullest without the washer, leaving only a small gap (maybe the washer's thickness) between it and the hub.

The shims in question are behind the backing plate and may stick to the axle end. They may even appear to be a part of it. I suppose it's possible to have one without shims too but I've never seen one.

I think I somehow missed the first post so also missed the point of the discussion! If you do make these, I could use two as the generic ones, while they work, are a pain!

If you're on Facebook there are many private groups for Chrysler, Imperial and other Chrysler makes and I'm sure posting the generator there would get it a good home. I had thought of that with mine but, as the label is virtually unreadable and I have no reference material to know what it fits, I'll put it off until I can do the research.

I’ve said it before, but it needs to be said again…I truly appreciate all the help from this network of people and the patience with those of us who are doing these things for the first time. I know many are likely scratching their heads and thinking “oh lord, what is this guy doing?” There is a one word answer to that….”Learning”?

I started working on Packards as a 16 year old in the mid-'60s but prior to that, since I was 14, I had a 1937 Chevrolet. Obviously no Internet so for me, the main difficulty was just in getting needed parts. Fortunately I am mechanically astute (or at least I used to be!) so have little trouble figuring things out but so glad this site exists for when I do need help. Posting questions in my Henney-Packard blog often get little response so when that happens I post separately but most the time the answers I do get are incredible!

That’s likely how my car got its current one.

Was that an unintentional pun?

That's the exact puller I've used since the '60s and it's always gotten off any drum I have, even the huge 14" ones on Henney-Packards.

In trying to get my shop back into some kind of order and putting generators and starters back on their shelf yesterday, photographing them as I did so, I was surprised to see this. Likely not the same as yours but I have no idea where it came from!
