While browsing the AACA Forum found the following post
"Hi, I am posting this, and hope that I am doing this right. My father, who is ill, (but don't tell him I told you so), and has now lost his job. (but don't tell him I told you that either), is now selling all his antique cars. He does not have a computer, and posted this car on craigs list. If anyone is interested in it please contact him. 1970 Oldsmoblie 442 W-30 Selling to the highest bidder Middleton, Idaho Randy Day 1-208-585-2159 He is the original owner to the car. The sight on Craig's list is:http://boise.craigslist.org/cto/847356544.html If you can not pull it up, just go to craigslist Idaho, boise, and type in 1970 olds. Thanks for looking! Cathy"

The guy selling the Olds 442 is the guy I bought my Coupe from. I've responded to the post and will call Randy tomorrow morning Sydney time when the Planets, as well as time differences, are better aligned. Below are some extracts from my original entry starting this Blog.

Thought I'd share my '41 120 Coupe Project.

This came about because I've wanted a Packard Coupe for over 40 years.......

.......a little later in ebay, there appeared a '41 120 coupe in Idaho and which from the pictures and commentary appeared to be a nice car...........

So after retiring on the 20th I arrived in San Francisco on the 23th July and then Boise Idaho on the 24th. Inspection of the '41 as well as a test drive, convinced me.....in closing the deal.

I then had the opportunity to visit the owner of the '41 from 1960 to 2006, a dentist. This owner has 10, count them 10, other Packards for sale - see my reply in the forum re this.

Now for the shipper, inquiries late on the 24th revealed that the trailer had blown 2 tires running over debris on the road that day which, coupled with illness to the lady in the partnership had slowed their progress to Idaho. However they expressed their confidence in arriving on the afternoon of the 25th. So the wait began. With their non show by early evening I contacted and left messages on their cell. When they responded it was to advise they'd be there in about an hour as another tire had blown on the trailer and it only had 3 wheels on it now! They eventually arrived about 8:30pm whereupon they said we must think they look like hillbillies, and truer words couldn't have been said. Although doubts were in my mind as to entrusting my prized Packard to their custody and their assurances that it would be safe with them for the trip to Los Angeles, confirmed by an email next day with a reference to Mr S & W being available for security purposes although I didn't think bullet holes would enhance the '41's appearance!

I later learned, that Randy (a real nice bloke and the seller of the car) had had a call from the shippers and they were 4 hours into the trip to LA, and this time had burned out a wheel-bearing on the trailer. I should mention that, fortunately for the shippers, Randy worked at a RV manufacturer and was able to supply the shippers with 2 brand new wheels and tires for the trailer at an extremely good price!.......

Congratulations, great experience for first up. As this will be a working vehicle there's sure to be many more miles driven and enjoyed, at least for anyone sitting upright. As for those who make the trip lying down, they'll do it in a most elegant and fitting manner in the Henney.

Hope you enjoy.

Although not specifically interested in fire vehicles, anything Packard based is of interest. No, I wasn't aware of the General vehicles on the Packard Twelve but it is a real good looking fire engine! And there is no mistaking the maker of the Stutz powered fire engine is there? I do have a pic of a Packard fire vehicle from the Warren Ohio Packard Museum though.

It's surprising what and where a thread can lead to. In this instance the "many" Packard fire vehicles caught my eye and I highlighted that. Anyone know why that might be? More pic's were provided which led to trafficators being highlighted and Gerd kindly corrected my explanation there. The pic of the '34 1102 with the locomotive in the typically Swiss setting and Dave's earlier comment Quote:
Owen_Dyneto wrote:.......Their Packard club really brings out the vintage iron, and he's sent me quite a few other terrific photos of sometimes very unusual cars in terrific locales......
also intrigues me, whetting my appetite for the "other terrific photos".

Kev,

Spot on there old boy. A lot of British, and probably European, cars had these type of indicators factory mounted in the B pillar and when activated they swing out from the body and the light inside flashes.

In the Recent Photos column, the pic posted by Owen_Dyneto of the Swiss Packard Meet shows 7 Packards and 4 are Fire Department vehicles. Quite a concentration of unusual Packards in the one locality.
