ptv, the situation is quite different with the big senior transmission used thru 1939 on the Twelve, just a reproduction bearing set alone is about $700 which is a huge bargain compared to what we were paying before the reproduction bearing set became available. One rather unusual bearing, I believe the original supplier was Fafnir, was just about unobtainium until the repro set. And though the synchronizers are adjustable and usually don't need replacement, if they did you'd most likely have to had them made at a machine shop, there is a shop in Switzerland that has recently made a few sets.

That senior transmission is more complex and sophisticated that the junior unit and uses a lot of bearings, 10 as I recall; one in particular, I think it was a Fafnir double-row ball bearing, was always rather elusive to locate and alone often went for $600 or more and you were glad to pay that if you could find one.
