yeah i was look at the linkage on the carbs themselves, they look identical, so i was thiking the same as you...should be pretty easy to make that center piece.

i was assuming just by looking that the linkage to the firewall was the same as 1x4. i agree...it appears to be so.

thanks for the input!

wet sanding has begun. this is 600 grit and i'm able to see all the high spots. its gonna take some serious elbow grease!

i scrapped down all the runs that i could see, but wetsanding has found more....razor blade out...then wetsand again and its good to go.

i'll finish up with 1200...then 2000 grit. then polishing, etc.

after that is all done....trim time.

and if anyone knows of a true batwing for a 2x4 setup...pm me.

Hank,
Only up to page 100 but I am enjoying the heck out of the project. It sounds like we both are coming from the same place as far as expectation. We both seen be anal (good or bad) on trying to keep to as original as possible down to the service parts. That is where I have been too but I am learning I need to relax a bit, that will be the hardest for me. Looks like my project will be following yours, every component needs to come apart and rebuild. my goal is not to necessarily have a Grade 1 restore, my goal is to have as accurate as possible restore that will keep this great car around and running for another 60 years. Look forward to finally making to page 168

Hey, I really appreciate it! Over the next 68 pages you'll see I had to be less anal and relax myself. Some things I couldn't help or I improved on without them being seen. And now I seem to be upgrading....although with Packard parts. One of my favorite preservations has been the factory paint. I hope my blog helps you, it's the reason I keep posting. You never know how it will help someone.

I see you found an Eldorado unit, are you going to remove the chrome chevron and fill the holes?

since the breather mounts the opposite on the Packard...the answer is yes. if the chevron mounted correctly it would look pretty close to the Packard senior chevron on the front grill and i might have been more apt to keep it as a homage.

the little nut caps on the pods will be changed to wing nuts as well, just like caribbean. it will be painted black.

The Eldorado will fit the Packard?

I guess the Chevy is the only one that won't work?

yes it is a 9" carb spacing just like the caribbean.

here is a good reference i found on the internet. it has to be the 54-56 version to be correct.

passenger's door and front fender now in clear coat. I'm sick so that is all for this weekend, but I had to take advantage of the warmer weather.
