yeah, she is locked up. Its just as well, since thus far, the only thing that has been serviceable has been the starter, compensator, and Generator motors. Of course, they came apart anyway for a check out. This is a total top to bottom overhaul.

Since my 452 came with all Auto-Lite, I have a set of delco motors on their way from California along with my new torsion bars.

Front and rear suspension parts will be here on Tuesday so the plan is to have a rolling chassis by next weekend. then on to the Engine and Trany.

Headed up to Grand Rapids next week to pick up the Rotisserie so I can get the body mounted and then I wont have to work overhead anymore. Hopefully the winter temps will cooperate, the Daughter wants it done for her wedding in June. Here is to hoping.

Good day today. Picked up a Rochester Carb and a new set of 374 pistons and pins for less than $100.

Now back to the grunt work

Ok, Here we go. I got the 374 up on the engine stand. The motor is frozen.

Popping off the lifter cover, the lifters and head has burnt oil, and discoloration on a lot of pats, so this engine has seen heat.

I found a couple things that seem odd to me. The 374 was cast 12-1-55 and is stamped 5680. This Engine has ADJUSTABLE push rods, where my other engine build 1 month later stamped 1-20-56 does not. My understanding was that all 56 has solid push rods and fixed (integral guides)

The other odd thing is that one of the push rods on Cylinder 7 has a larger ball and lock nut than all the others.

so, should the rods be adjustable or solid for a 56 374? was there a running change ? Cornfused at the moment. I will get further into the heads tomorrow.

Packard did not build their V8s with adjustable pushups so obviously the engine is no virgin.

Oh Boy, this is NOT encouraging. Hopefully, I can work her back to spec. Have to really get into her to find out what has been modified.

Very interesting. Adj pushrods = solid lifters most likely (but not necessarily).

When u get into the rod bearings record any numbers that maybe stamped on the backside of the rod bearing. Ditto for mains and cam bearings .
