Seals for The Ultramatic came in this week, so we may do The tranny on The weekend.
When installing the torque converter to The input side of The tranny, should I feel a certain number of clicks as things engage? I remember this from doing a th350 years ago. Car will be up high on some big jack stands, and we have a motorcycle Jack that is almost as good as a real tranny Jack, but sadly has no tilt adjustment. Will not be easy, but should be possible.

Of course everything takes time. We got the trans almost all sealed up.
Can somebody help us with figuring out what lines to order for the tranny cooler? Is it 1/2 or 7/16 perhaps?
We're also missing the pipe fittings that attach the lines to the transmission. I guess if I knew the line diameter it would be easier to identify the size of the fittings. Gregor and I could really use a hint if anybody knows these sizes.
Also, the bearing from the tailshaft of the tranny got lost in the chaos. It is part 3.6741. Anybody have one of these that they are willing to part with, or help us with the bearing dimensions?

well well well, Gregor got his motor running, brakes braking and transmission going in low and reverse, but he says high is slipping. Before we installed the trans, I adjusted the low and reverse bands, but as far as I know, the shifter linkage and throttle linkage are not adjusted. (just thrown together) The fluid level might also be questionable....I guess fluid level and both linkages are the first things to check.
Fluid is checked with trans warm at idle 800rpm in neutral, on the little dipstick on the side of the trans right?
The car is coming together!
His radio even works, I am so jealous!

Yes, check the trans at warm idle within a minute or so of running it thru each position. But 800 rpm is a walloping fast idle speed! Whether or not that affects the fluid level reading I don't know, but Packard's idle speed spec was 400-450 rpm in neutral (375 in gear).

An incorrect throttle adjustment can ruin an Ultramatic in short order so I'd take care of that before I attempted to drive much more.
