I think it's pretty cool that your Patrician may have a factory replacement engine

Whoa, there! I only advised that the factory (that is, the survivng South Bend operations) had offered up surplus 55 engines as service replacements for 56 Seniors.

In view of the casting date and metallic green engine paint, the block and heads, in Troy's car appear to have an engine built for use in a 56 Clipper or Exec.

If never stamped with a VN in either of the two locations, then this engine IS likely a service replacement, but not factory-sanctioned as a replacement for a 56 Senior car.

Yep, she had a swap somewhere along the line for some reason. I am going to leave it as is and rebuild the 352 and enjoy for many years to come.

Feel like a kid in a candy store today. My skirts are missing from the Patrician but I found a set for $40 with good chrome. As mentioned when I pulled the engine and tranny, someone prior had pried and put deep gouges in the turbine shaft which in turn chewed the seal. I have been struggling paying $175 for a used shaft with visible wear. On accident I stumbled on a NOS shaft for $70. Im feeling like good deals.

Things do have a habit of working out sometimes. Glad to see you are feeling better about your purchase now some things are starting to break your way.

Continued good luck with it.

Troy,

Sounds like lottery day for you.

Make sure you compare your new one to your old one, or to the latest designed one for your transmission. There are service Counselors, and technical bulletins on this site that list the changes.

Little more time in the garage today. With the engine on the stand, I drained what was supposed to be oil. pulled the plug and nothing came out. Wiggled a screw driver in the oil pan and got out water, and thick sludge. Now 90 weight is thick but this was more like 180 weight. I had to heat the oil pan with a torch to get it flowing as it drained out in chunks. Last documented oil change was 12-21-1967, I believe it. Took the Rear door off and beginning to prep for the rocker replacements. Love working on the old girl.

Got an appointment Saturday with the Chromers to get some estimates. Body coming off this week end. (planned anyway) Everything in Red in the pics will be replaced. This is the bulk of the body work as far as metal goes. Inner, outer Rockers and Lower rear quarters. $340 for the formed panels.

Good luck and best wishes. If prices you are quoted are in line with some figures others have mentioned, be sitting or sure there is nothing in the way when you fall over.
